What a society or a nation places importance in/on speaks volumes on that society and its priorities. This sets in motion the karma for a nation going forward. The seeds are sown and in due course the karmic harvest arrives. There are often unintended consequences which are by definition the manifestation of karma. Karma does not work the way we insist it might.
That which you value aligns with how you envisage the universe and your rights to use, despoil or nurture it. If you are a wastrel avaricious consumer that sets a karmic note. If you are a bellicose bully then in the fullness of time he who lives by the sword dies by the sword. In the heat of the moment and perhaps filled with red mist or blood lust few consider the karmic implications of both their thought and deeds.
I understand fully that many do not believe in the notion of karma. Within the logic of karma that is their karma so to believe. Karma will happen whether they believe in it or not. If there is no karma then the non-believer is right suggesting that a disbelief in karma has the karmic outcome of non-manifestation of karma. Disbelief in karma can save you from karma because karma does not exist. If you believe in karma then karma happens. What you believe has karmic outcomes irrespective of belief.
A long while back I was interested in how organisations work, one can do a (social) network analysis and draw up interpersonal connection maps. A person with many connections is likely to be more significant in the wider scheme of things. These maps may be present on things like social media, WankedIn . It is possible to quantify numerically how significant someone is. We can count their followers on the internet and measure the citations of any of their publications. If we are well connected and significant we can earn advertising revenue by annoying our readers with adverts. The more traffic we get the more we can charge people to try to flog things.
Any such analysis for me would show that I am quantifiably insignificant. My personal email is dominated by Amazon, Orange and Intermarché. It is extremely rare for me to get any personal email, less than half a dozen a year. Nobody ‘phones me because nobody knows my number.
It is safe to say that because I am quantifiably insignificant nobody {with one exception} considers me or what I do of any/much importance. In the last decade that level of significance has waned even further. Pretty much nobody is interested in what I have to say. No Biggie.
My connection maps would have very few active primary connections, one. There are secondary connections. This situation is unlikely to change moving forward. One could say that the last two decades of this life have had little or no wider significance.
One could say that in societal terms I am surplus to requirements. It goes along with out missing me. I don’t miss it, it does not miss me, a win-win. There are plenty of fish in the sea.
I have been toying with the idea of a YouTube channel today. It will give me something to do as the nights draw in. Another piece of controlled folly…
We each of us have our own success criteria. I am by many metrics a failure. I am not a success in the way that these things are often measured and quantified.
