People can refrain from seeing the obvious and from fully cognitively assimilating it if the consequences of them doing so are inconvenient.
We see what we want to see and are very prejudiced about how facts, the truth or a message, are packaged. We can miss that which is right under our nose and prefer highly complex, esoteric and political-paranoid explanations. We have huge expectations concerning the provenance of where we source our information and that which we deem true. We rely on the witness of people we know even if we do not trust them. The familiar is our font of wisdom our oracle of choice. Better the devil you know.
I have a problem; it is not for me a big one.
However I can usually foresee it playing out and there is no way that I can warn anyone about it in a manner which they will believe or accept. It just has to unfold. Attempts at warning people are not listened to and they simply think me weird. In the fullness of time when my predilection and intellect is revealed and come fully into play people can find themselves not as smart and know-it-all as they imagined. Jaws can drop.
In the past I have sat in a board room meeting as a founder-director in which an individual investor made an on the spot decision about a £ 1 million personal cash investment. There was a time in which I walked in different circles. I was at home in those circles. I can still switch into full-on tech entrepreneur mode. This can be a bit much for the vast majority for people. It is a does not compute (DNC) that someone so mild and accommodating can suddenly switch into hard as nails. I can be very intense to the extent that people can freak out and brick it.
In this partially crippled package of an obese 62 year old scruffy and often unshaven man there is something not entirely expected. The package does not provide evidence of the contents.
People can be so very self-absorbed that they fail to see and appreciate. In their omniscient arrogance they can miss much. People who have tried to manoeuvre me may forget or be unaware that my experience is perhaps wider than my vest and combat trousers suggest. If there is a great big trap in front of someone there is little point in warning them because they are sure that there is not one. You just have to let them find out.
That which is right under your nose can be the hardest to see.
I can say with some confidence that there are dozens of people who have misunderstood the nature of our interaction and the potential which it might have had. I am not in the habit of overly bigging myself up and showing off. I do not look as if I have much to offer. My garb is wrong and I am not affiliated to any august institution. I am without kudos.
It is not my problem if people get the wrong end of the stick. It is an insoluble “problem”. I cannot solve people getting the wrong end of the stick. I cannot stop them, nor can I persuade them. I am not keen upon things which I cannot solve. It is an observable which I have seen play out many, many times.
The bottom line is that you cannot warn or teach the self-diagnosed omniscient, it is impossible.
